Preparation materials

  • 700 g sweet potato
  • 3 T cooking oil
  • 5 T sugar

Tools to use

  • Frying pan
  • Measuring spoons

* All ingredients were measured using measuring spoons (1T=15cc, 1t=5cc).

How to create

  • Peel the sweet potato, cut off both ends, and slice into 1-1.5 cm thick slices.
💡Cutting it to a consistent thickness makes it easier to cook evenly.
  • Heat 3 T of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the sweet potatoes from front to back until golden brown (about 8-10 minutes)
  • Remove the sweet potato from the heat and remove it from the oven when a chopstick inserted into it is fully cooked.
  • Add 5 T sugar to the remaining oil in the pan and cook over low heat until all the sugar is dissolved (about 2-3 minutes)
💡Stirring the sugar can cause it to crystallize and harden, so instead, lift and swirl the pan slightly to melt it evenly.
  • Once the sugar has dissolved, add the cooked sweet potatoes and toss quickly for 10 to 20 seconds to coat them with sugar.
💡Be careful with splashing sugar syrup, it can burn you.

Caveats & tips

  • Boiled sugar syrup is very hot, so be careful not to splatter when mixing quickly.
