Make it perfect with ChappaGuri's Golden Ratio recipe
The dish is a cross between spaghetti and raccoon, and was made famous worldwide by the movie Parasite. It's a simple dish that involves mixing and cooking spaghetti and raccoon, but here's a golden ratio recipe that adds details to make it even more delicious.
What is ChappaGuri?
Jjapaguri is a classic Korean mixed ramen dish that features a unique flavor combination of jjajang ramen and spicy ramen noodles. The name jjapaguri comes from the word "jjajang" for jjajang ramen and "guri" for raccoon ramen. The dish became popular in 2013 when an online community shared the recipe, and it has since been featured in TV shows and movies.
Japaguri is a simple but unique way to cook ramen that many people love. The sweet and salty sauce of jajang ramen and the sharp broth of spicy ramen combine to create a unique flavor combination. When boiling the two types of ramen, it's important to leave enough water to mix the soup together to bring out the flavors, and it's fun to customize the recipe by adjusting the amount of jajang ramen soup or adding more raccoon ramen noodles.
In recent years, japaguri has been upgraded to a more sophisticated dish by adding a variety of ingredients, such as "chae tip japaguri" topped with chae tip steak in the movie Parasite, which is considered an example of how japaguri can be taken to the next level from a simple instant dish. Thanks to its versatility and simplicity, japaguri has become one of the most iconic Korean dishes not only among ramen lovers, but also around the world.

Ingredients (for 2 servings)
- Zappaghetti: 2 rods
- Raccoon: 1 rod
- Raw onions: 1 (diced and ready to go)
- Cooking oil: 1T
- Option: Eggs, cucumbers, dumplings, grilled beef, etc.
By measurements: 1 T=15 cc, use 1 t=5 cc measuring spoons
The creation process
Prepare your ingredients
Prepare 2 spaghetti strands, 1 raccoon, and 50 grams of caramelized onions. For the caramelized onions, if you don't have long sautéed onions, simply slice 1 raw onion and sauté it in oil until the onion is completely browned.
Boil noodles
In a large saucepan over high heat, add all of the spaghetti & raccoon flakes and half of the raccoon soup to about 1.2 liters of water. Reserve the remaining half of the raccoon soup.
When the water starts to boil, add the noodles and cook for 4 minutes.
When it's time, strain the noodles and reserve the water in which you cooked them.
Sautéing onions
While the noodles are boiling, heat 1 T of cooking oil in a medium-low pan and add the caramelizing onions. Sauté briefly until they are softened.
Mixing spices
Add the sautéed onions to the spaghetti powder soup and half of the remaining raccoon soup and mix well, adding more noodles as you go to adjust the consistency to give the spaghetti a deeper flavor.
Mixing noodles and sauce
Add the cooked noodles to the pan and mix with the sautéed onions. Add the noodle water a little at a time to get the right consistency. Once the noodles and sauce are well combined, remove from the heat and you're ready to go.
Finalize
Serve the finished chapatis in bowls and top with your favorite garnishes, such as eggs, dumplings, cucumber, or grilled beef. Adding dumplings adds a crunchy texture and makes it a meal in itself.
Alternative ingredients and cooking tips
- When adding the noodles, add the thicker raccoon noodles first to ensure even cooking.
- Make a big batch of caramelized onions at once and store them in the freezer to use in multiple dishes.
- Cream ChappaGuri: Add a little whipped cream for a creamy sauce that's smooth and luxurious.
- Add spiciness: Try adding green chilies or a tablespoon of chili oil for an extra kick.
