Air Fryer Crispy Sweet Potato Chips Recipe

Today I'm bringing you an easy sweet potato chip recipe that you can make in the air fryer. Sweet potato chips are a healthy snack with just three ingredients, a crispy texture, and a natural sweetness. They're a great guilt-free snack because they're not fried in oil! Let's get started with the sweet potato chip recipe.

Benefits of Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are rich in vitamin A and dietary fiber, which help promote digestion and boost the immune system. Vitamin A, in particular, is important for improving eye health and preventing night blindness. They're also high in beta-carotene and antioxidants, which help support skin health and anti-aging. Sweet potatoes' low glycemic index (GI) keeps blood sugar stable to provide steady energy, making them a great choice for diabetics and those on a diet.

Sweet potatoes are rich in potassium, which helps flush sodium from the body, which is beneficial for blood pressure control, and magnesium, which helps relieve stress and supports cardiovascular health. Sweet potatoes are also high in iron, which helps prevent anemia.

Sweet potatoes are versatile because they can be cooked in a variety of ways. You can steam or bake them for a snack, stew them, or use them as a salad ingredient. To get the most health benefits from sweet potatoes, we recommend cooking them in their skins or steaming them at the right temperature.

The creation process

Washing sweet potatoes

Start by cleaning the sweet potato. Soak the sweet potatoes in water for 5 minutes to loosen dirt and debris, then use a brush or soft sponge to scrub the outside thoroughly and rinse under running water.

Steaming Sweet Potatoes

I used a simple microwave steaming method: cut the peeled sweet potatoes into suitable sized pieces, place them in a bowl with 300 grams of cut sweet potatoes and 15 grams of water, and cover with plastic wrap.

Prick the wrap with a fork and microwave for 6 minutes to steam.

Make the sweet potato batter

Mash the steamed sweet potatoes while still warm and add 20 g unsalted butter and melt.

Then add 20 grams of cornstarch and 20 grams of sugar and mix well. Adjust the amount of sugar according to the sweetness of your sweet potato.

Shaping the dough

Roll the dough into balls the size of marble, place on a piece of paper foil, cover with another piece of paper foil, and flatten with a cup or bowl.

Once it's shaped, remove the top foil. Work all of the dough.

Burning

Place the dough in an air fryer or oven preheated to 140 degrees and bake for 40 minutes. Once baked, allow the dough to cool completely and you'll have crispy sweet potato chips.

Tip

  • Don't soak the sweet potatoes in water for too long or they'll leach all their nutrients, so only soak them for 5 minutes.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar based on the sweetness of your sweet potatoes.
  • Press the dough as thin as possible to ensure even cooking.
  • Bake slowly at a low temperature (140 degrees F) to prevent burning on the outside.
  • If they're not crispy enough, try increasing the time a bit more.
  • If you're trying to lose weight, try cutting out sugar or replacing it with stevia or alulose.
